Dallorin Steeple
Deep in the depths of the Dallorin steeple,
Down in the dark where dreams go to die
Far and away from all kinds of people
An ancient collection gives up its last sigh.
Far, far above, where the staircase turns
And a last, lost, gull gives a wail,
A man is fleeing the threat of burns
And certain that he’s going to fail.
There’s a taste of smoke in the back of his mouth,
And flames alight in his mind.
Climbing and climbing - it’s all going south -
Don’t look back, you don’t know what you’ll find.
Up, ever up, on a stair that won’t end,
It’s all that he still knows to do
While beneath and below is the cause of this trend:
A comic that’s labeled “Vol. 2.”
